Rough Cut and Evaluation

Evaluation of rough cut
When the rough cut of the music video was finished we asked the class to give some feedback on what they thought of it and any ideas on how to improve it. A lot of the feedback was positive stating that they liked the storyline and the way me changed ‘the past’ in black and white. Also, the range of performance were positively remarked on i.e. close ups, long shots, focusing on certain band members etc. However it was stated that one or two of the performance shots may be too long, and that a few more narrative parts should be put in.
It was commented on that the lip synching was almost perfect apart from one part, which was obviously something that would have to be solved. Blank spaces were also an issue, therefore when perfecting, it was mandatory that they were filled. As the rough cut featured very little edits, it was suggested that some ‘experimenting’ could be done with the editing.
A shot were everyone seemed to like were the two or three shots of the city as they said it links perfectly with the line ‘crossed the world’. People also liked the few ‘overlapped’ shots as they were quite creative. Shots were also taken and fast edited together to portray the sense of waiting which was said to be effective.
Another area that was said needed to be improved was the fact that when the camera zoomed in, it was shaking therefore looked unprofessional.

drawing of DVD Cover and Advert
The DVD cover
And the Advert
We were very specific in what we wanted our advert and DVD cover to look like. SO we tried our best to get the actual pictures the same as the skecthes drawn. Luckily we were successful in achieveing this and so happy of the outcome.
Looking Up DVD Booklet
Each Page contains a different song which is included in our album 'Vertical'. In total, this consists off 'Looking Up', 'Brick By Boring brick' and 'Feeling Sorry'.
in the middle of the booklet we have included another image similar to the DVD disk image. We liked the artistic/visual side to this image. Feedback from people in the class, also helped as they agreed it was different. The colours again are in the scheme except we added the green colour when we took the photo as it was more effective.
This is our final page spread of the song 'Feeling Sorry'. Continuous with the rest of the DVD, images, writing and colour.
Each Page of the booklet sticks to the continuous colour scheme, this page containing the lyrics to our feature song, 'Looking Up'.
The next page includes the next song which is 'Brick By Boring Brick', As said in the evaluation we have intorverted the layout with the lyrics on the opposite page compared to the first page spread.

Looking Up DVD cover Evaluation
The construction of our DVD cover was around a city theme, for the indie/punk/rock genre of our video. So for the front cover we thought it would be an effective idea to have the band in with the city style image upside down, for the grunge/dirty city theme to fit the genre. So when we went to take the photos we needed, we went into the city which had the best view at night to show the dark, busy side of the city, For example from a time of day when it was most different to normal life during the day. We used the lights of the buildings and reflections in the water to make the image effective and light but duller. We edited the picture to make it all blend in with the school scheme of black and white. We used a colour scheme throughout of white, blacks and reds to make it professional. We thought that the idea of dark pictures with slight brightness and then black boxes as a background for the lyrics would be effective and so stand out. Then however inverted the colour scheme so that everything was the other way round, white writing on black background and black writing on a white background. From researching into different bands techniques for their DVD covers, we found that the most common used was the title in big letters on the front cover to stand out as the attention is on their name. Along with the titles of the DVD included in smaller print at the bottom of the front cover, thus leading to the songs being printed on the back cover, we followed this layout to make it look as professional as other band DVD covers.
This is the first draft of our DVD cover.
This is the first draft of our DVD cover.
We thought the layout of the cover was well levelled, however the images we used did not fit into the colour scheme, thus leading us on to editing them to a more black/green shade, making it fit in with the colour scheme. We also noticed that more symbols of the bands company, website and information regarding tours needed to be added to make it look more real/professional. Overall the first draft helped in terms of seeing where we needed to improve and change. We felt our final product was effective.
This was our final draft.
Looking Up DVD disc
It is this image which will apear on the disc, which sticks with the continuous colour scheme of black, red and white. We thought a distored image of the city theme would be effective for this part of DVD, it fit well with the shape and suits the genre. The image is more artistic comnpared to the rest, to give the disc an edge to it.
