Looking Up Poster Evaluation

The construction of the advert was around a school type theme which links in with the teenager punk/rock genre. This went effectively with the city contrast for the DVD cover. So for the main centre image, we wanted the band as the image that stood out the most, letting the audience know what we are and music genre we are. We took the picture around our school as it went with our original theme, and found the building with the metal gritty stairs. This location was perfect for the effect and theme we were going for. Once we shot the correct image we edited it to make it more visual, so that it contrasted with the genre. We made the image artistic using Photoshop’s filter tools. We eventually gathered the right style once we had added the red tint to it, making it more colourful. Again we stuck to the same colour scheme as the DVD cover, black, white and red so that it all contrasts together. As for the writing, we did research into other bands adverts and found a pattern of the band name and single in big letters to stand out to the reader. This leading to having the band name at the top, similar to the layout of other band adverts, and then we placed the name of the single at the bottom. Finally we added little effects to make it look more professional, such as a band website for us, names of companies were involved with and out own symbol. We thought following existing band layout would be the best option.
This was our first draft.

After assessing people’s feedback, we did more research as it didn’t look like a professional advert. We felt the image was too big and there was not enough detail about the band’s music and future events. We then made the image more rectangular to suit the meaning of the song, as in looking up. We then put the excess space at the bottom to use and included writing introducing our first single and information of us touring in the near future. Finally there were some last minute adjustments that had to be made against o make I more professional, these including the date of when the song is released. All in all the effects added, made us happy of the outcome and felt it looked realistic and professional.
This is our final draft.
