Esmee Denters-Outta Here analysis

Esmee Denters- Outta here
This music video is based on a story of a girl who has basically been played by a boy. There are many visual effects in the video which help create the anger and sadness she is feeling because of a boy. Part of the video swaps between her and him showing each of the emotions, he appears happy /smug whereas she is frustrated, upset and angry with him. This effect helps distinguish the relationship between them and who is feeling good and bad. Images of her moving fast whilst flashing also help show her emotions with her erratic actions. However in some parts she seems smug and optimistic about it, that she doesn’t really care and that she just wants him ‘outta there’. This is shown by the way she closes the laptop whilst he’s on the screen, as well as her deleting every piece of him in her life as she is starting fresh. She appears to be strong in the video, and so the flashing images and shots of her tearing a picture of her and him show she will survive. The structure of the video is basically a narrative type video, following a story. However it is concept based as it has different images of her with the laptop, by herself and of him. The concepts illustrate the story. It is the edits which get the emotions across and the story, the use of fast editing and flashing images shows the anger and frustration. Long shots allow the audience to see more of the story such as how she reacts to seeing him on the laptop and express her emotions so that the narrative of the song is set and readable. The mise-en-scene of the video seems appropriate for the story. The use of a bedroom scene with her dealing with her anger, then him in an empty room leaving him alone showing that he is the one which has ‘lost out’, he made the mistake. However she appears in the club, which she can be seen as strong and independent, she is over it and ready to move forward. I believe the video was a success as it relates to many teenagers in modern society dealing with love, it is positive for the younger generation as it shows them that you can get through loving someone you love. However it is a very modern video, with fashion and the newest technology, it makes the video more effective as these products help get the message across message across. This video alone made Esmee Denters famous and so has definitely helped her career, as she started off with posting videos on YouTube. The target audience for this video would be teenagers around the ages of 13-20 and mainly females as it’s about a girl with a broken heart due to her having a boyfriend that doesn’t care. The video itself targets this audience as the story is shown, a typical teenager dealing with love and being independent, one of the main problems teenage girls deal with in modern society.
CD cover
The single cover is simplistic, with just an image of her and the title of both her and the song. She is the main image and takes up most of the cover as she is the most important as a solo artist, she appears to be independent, free and has attitude which makes her strong, however her facial expression could be seen as sad, the way she looks down to the floor suggests that her body position is put on, and that she is actually suffering inside. This cover is different to other artists covers as ‘Outta here’ appears handwritten by her, which adds a personal effect to the cover itself, an effective technique which also suggests its personal to her.

Poster
The poster is similar but also has different features to the CD cover.Instead of her appearing strong and independent, she looks innocent and vulnerable. It focuses on her beauty mainly, as she is the main image which links in with the CD cover. This one has no personal effect, however the font style of the title and artist suits the genre of the song which again makes it effective and compromises with the song.
