Looking Up DVD cover Evaluation

The construction of our DVD cover was around a city theme, for the indie/punk/rock genre of our video. So for the front cover we thought it would be an effective idea to have the band in with the city style image upside down, for the grunge/dirty city theme to fit the genre. So when we went to take the photos we needed, we went into the city which had the best view at night to show the dark, busy side of the city, For example from a time of day when it was most different to normal life during the day. We used the lights of the buildings and reflections in the water to make the image effective and light but duller. We edited the picture to make it all blend in with the school scheme of black and white. We used a colour scheme throughout of white, blacks and reds to make it professional. We thought that the idea of dark pictures with slight brightness and then black boxes as a background for the lyrics would be effective and so stand out. Then however inverted the colour scheme so that everything was the other way round, white writing on black background and black writing on a white background. From researching into different bands techniques for their DVD covers, we found that the most common used was the title in big letters on the front cover to stand out as the attention is on their name. Along with the titles of the DVD included in smaller print at the bottom of the front cover, thus leading to the songs being printed on the back cover, we followed this layout to make it look as professional as other band DVD covers.
This is the first draft of our DVD cover.
We thought the layout of the cover was well levelled, however the images we used did not fit into the colour scheme, thus leading us on to editing them to a more black/green shade, making it fit in with the colour scheme. We also noticed that more symbols of the bands company, website and information regarding tours needed to be added to make it look more real/professional. Overall the first draft helped in terms of seeing where we needed to improve and change. We felt our final product was effective.
This was our final draft.
